Welding Technology Program

Within the Welding Technology program, you will learn about industry safety expectations and processes of welding, including fire, electrical and compressed gas safety. Upon completion of this program, you will know how to guard against the inherent dangers of the weld process and will be familiar with safety tools such as Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), respiratory protection and the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

In addition, you will gain an understanding of mechanical properties and common gases and the affect they can have on a given weldment.

As a welding professional, you will work with ferrous and non-ferrous metals. At First Institute, you will get hands-on training you need to weld metals, such as steel, aluminum, brass and stainless steel, while learning the characteristics of each material. You will also develop skills welding non-metal materials, like plastic and polymer.

Once you have completed the required 150 hours of course work, you will be eligible to sit for the welding certification credential governed by the American Weld Society (AWS).
